Hockey Unit of Tamilnadu was christened by the Tamilnadu Olympic Association in 2010 and was registered in the Registration of Society in 2011 and was formed with the merger of the Tamilnadu Hockey Association (Men) and Tamilnadu state Women Hockey Association (Women).

Hockey Unit of Tamilnadu is the apex body of the state which has the sole mandate to govern and conduct all activities for men and women hockey in the state and participate in the nationals and All India Tournament.

Hockey Unit of Tamilnadu is affiliated to Hockey India and recognized by Tamilnadu Olympic Assocaition and Sports Development Authority of Tamilnadu to train players and committed to the development of the players, coaches and technical officials to the National and International arena.
